Canine Leptosporosis

Leptospirosis, a highly contagious disease of the kidneys and liver that is a zoonotic disease, meaning THAT IT CAN INFECT PEOPLE. The organism that causes Leptospirosis is called a leptospire. Leptospires are shed in the urine and body fluids of infected animals, including: cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, horses, coyotes, foxes, bobcats, opossums, raccoons, foxes, etc. Infection can occur from direct exposure to a diseased animal's body fluids, or exposure to contaminated bedding, vegetation or water. Lepto is a problem in all areas with large numbers of domestic animals and/or wildlife, including Flower Mound.
